More than 2,000 professional and amateur photographers across the city will today take part in a special event to celebrate World Cities Day.

The task for the snappers is to capture the essence of Shanghai on this special day, which was initiated by China, the Bureau of International Expositions and the United Nations Human Settlement Program after the 2010 World Expo.

All of the images the photographers produce will be uploaded in real time to the Shanghai Tourism Administration's microblog site on Weibo for the world to see.

Meanwhile, in London, New York, Sydney, Moscow, New Delhi, Paris and Munich, thousands more snappers will spend October 31 trying to capture the things they love most about their cities in which they live.
