Indonesian President Joko meets with China's senior official

Indonesian new President Joko Widodo met with Chinese President Xi Jinping's special envoy Yan Junqi in the president palace on Tuesday.

Yan Junqi, who is also vice chairwoman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, conveyed the warm greetings and best wishes from President Xi to Joko on his inauguration as Indonesia's new president.

Yan said China and Indonesia are both major developing countries in Asia and the deepening comprehensive strategic partnership serves the common interests of both sides.

The two countries should deepen bilateral practical cooperation in various fields to benefit the two peoples and make greater contributions to promoting the peace, stability and development in the region and the world at large, Yan added.

Joko thanked President Xi Jinping for sending special envoy to attend the inauguration ceremony and asked Yan to convey his sincere regards to President Xi. He said Indonesia is willing to build closer friendly and cooperative relations with China and he is hoping to meet with President Xi during the APEC informal economic leaders' meeting in Beijing.

Yan attended the inauguration ceremony of Indonesia's President- elect Joko Widodo on Monday.
