China Poverty Alleviation Day set on Oct 17th each year

China's State Council has decided to set October 17th as the Poverty Alleviation Day starting from this year. The State Information Office announced this at a press conference on Tuesday morning.

China is determined to fight the vicious cycle of poverty. Stepping up resolutions, it hopes that more can be done to prevent the affliction to future generations.

The State Council has announced Poverty Alleviation Day, the first of its kind in China, established to raise awareness on crucial efforts that address the societal ill.

"The first Poverty Alleviation Day will be significant for the country's poverty relief work. The State Council will hold all kinds of conferences, seminars and activities to reward those working units and individuals who have made great achievements in poverty reduction work ," Zheng Wenkai with Leading Group Office said.

Zheng also highlighted China's achievements over the past decades in poverty reduction work.

Going forward, the government will enhance policy guidance for financial institutions.

These will bolster infrastructure construction and industrial development in poorer regions.

China will also improve mechanisms to allow a wider participation of organizations and individuals to reducing poverty.
