Classes are expected to resume on Monday in most of the schools in the quake-hit region of southwest China's Yunnan Province, local authorities said Sunday.

After Tuesday's earthquake, which killed one person and injured more than 300, classes in 100 schools in Jinggu County were suspended and more than 43,000 students were affected, according to the county's education bureau.

Some 88 out of the 100 schools will resume classes on Monday and the remaining schools are expected to resume classes before Oct. 27, said Chen Deliang, head of the bureau.

A prefab school was completed at 6 p.m. on Sunday to serve 1,460 students of the No. 1 Primary School of Yongping Township, which was hit hard by the quake.

A 6.6-magnitude quake hit Jinggu at 9:49 p.m. on Tuesday, killing at least one person and leaving 324 injured.
