A grandfather was sentenced to eight years in prison for killing what he claimed was a self-confessed trafficker who had abducted his grandson.

The court in the Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region also ruled that he had to pay compensation of nearly 59,000 yuan ($9,672) to the dead man's mother, according to chinacourt.org.

On the morning of July 22, 2012, Li Zhong, a resident of Longlin county, allegedly abducted Huang Bingbing, the grandson of Huang Guang, from Huang Guang's home.

When Huang Guang returned home at midday he found his grandson was not there and searched for him.

At around 6 pm, he found Li taking his grandson on a motor cycle to a township far from his home.

Huang Guang stopped Li who admitted, he said, to abducting Huang Bingbing.

Huang Guang then said rage took over and he beat Li after tying his hands behind his back.

Li was taken to a police station that night in a critical condition and died later in hospital.

An examination showed that Li's liver, spleen and kidney had been ruptured.
