China, Mexico pledge to enhance bilateral cooperation

China and Mexico should seize the current development opportunities and translate their comprehensive strategic partnership into concrete action, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said in Mexico city on Monday.

Since the two countries updated their ties to comprehensive strategic partnership last year, their relations have entered a new phase of fast development, Wang told the sixth meeting of the China-Mexico Permanent Binational Commission.

Important mechanisms like the high-level work group between the two countries' entrepreneurs and the inter-governmental high-level investment group have been established and convened their first meetings respectively, Wang said.

The two countries also have carried forward practical cooperation in various fields and carried out fruitful dialogues and cooperation in international and regional affairs, the minister said.

In face of important development opportunities, Wang said, the two countries should translate their comprehensive strategic partnership into concrete actions.

As an important inter-governmental cooperation mechanism, the permanent commission should strengthen planning and communication to push for more tangible outcomes from bilateral cooperation, said Wang.

Mexican Foreign Minister Jose Antonio Meade, said the Mexico-China ties have opened up new dimensions and achieved new progress since last year.

The minister said the Mexican side attaches great importance to its ties with China, and would like to give full play to the binational commission to promote greater development of the bilateral ties and bring benefit to their peoples.

During the meeting, the two sides have agreed to improve political mutual trust, deepen pragmatic cooperation and strengthen international coordination, and make them the three pillars of China-Mexico ties and the foundation of strengthened strategic cooperation.

The two sides have also agreed to maintain the momentum of high-level exchanges, strengthen exchanges between government departments, parliaments and regions, expand trade and two-way investment, and enhance cooperation in such fields as high-speed rail, highway, energy, agriculture, technology and tourism.

China and Mexico will also strengthen their cooperation within the frameworks of the United Nations, the Group of 20 and the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum and other multilateral mechanisms to safeguard the interests of both countries and other developing countries.

The two countries have also agreed to advance China-Latin America cooperation.
