Famous Canadian escape artist Dean Gunnarson has taken his death-defying skills to Shanghai. His latest hair-raising stunt involved an escape from China's largest wooden roller coaster.

Gunnarson was chained to the track. When the ride started, he needed to free himself before the coaster's cars hit him. He only had 58 seconds.

The wooden roller coaster is the biggest of its kind in China. Passengers experience zero gravity 10 times during the 1,200-meter-long ride. When the operator pulls the trigger, the cars maintain a speed of 90 kilometers an hour, as there is no slowing until the very end.

"I hope that he will succeed and escape as fast as possible," a Shanghai resident said.

'It was really close. I could see its eyes staring at me, and I could feel its breath breathing down on me. Wow, my heart is pumping. And it was close, that one last handcuff. I didn't know if I could get it in time," Gunnarson said.

"So worried. I didn't think that he was going to make it. I really did. So close. That is it. We are not letting him doing this any more. Never again," theatrics expert Cary Tardi said.
