About 1,000 underground clinics were shut down and 101 cases involving 48 people over alleged illegal practice of medicine have been reported in the first seven months of this year, the Shanghai Health and Family Planning Commission said yesterday.
To combat illegal medical practice in the Pudong New Area — home to a large number of migrant people who are not entitled to city health benefits — the authority launched raids there in June, shutting 74 illegal clinics, confiscating 121 boxes of medicines, 1,293 medical appliances and sending four people to the police for further investigations.
