Chinese President Xi Jinping has met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Modi's home town in the state of Gujarat, at the start of a three-day visit in India. It was both business and pleasure, as Modi was celebrating his birthday. The two sides signed a series of agreements to step up cooperation.

It's a sign of warming ties between China and India, as President Xi Jinping met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Modi's hometown on his birthday...

During the meeting, President Xi said China and India have become two of the largest developing nations and emerging-market economies in the world. The two countries have similar development paths, and they should learn from each other's strengths to achieve sustainable growth.

Modi agreed, saying the two sides had fruitful talks at the BRICS summit in July. He added that India will step up cooperation, particularly in terms of infrastructure and trade.

The two leaders witnessed the signing of an agreement to set up a power transmission industrial park in India.

China's Guangdong and India's Gujarat became sister provinces, and Guangdong's capital Guangzhou became the sister city of Gujarat's financial center Ahmedabad.

Xi and Modi visited the Gandhi Ashram, home to the father of India's independence movement, Mahatma Gandhi.

They also visited the Sabarmati Riverfront Development Project in Ahmedabad. It's the largest slum rehabilitation project in India, which successfully combines livelihood and environmental improvement.

Xi Jinping wished Narendra Modi happy birthday. The prime minister thanked him and said he was honored to celebrate together.

India is the last stop of Xi's four-nation tour in Central and South Asia, which has already taken him to Tajikistan, Maldives and Sri Lanka.
