Storms and gales sweep Southern China

In China's southernmost island province of Hainan, the typhoon killed two, with more than 440,000 affected. According to the local civil authority, direct economic loss totaled 35 million US dollars in Hainan alone. More than a million over in Guangdong were affected.

For its neighbor the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, 25,000 had to be evacuated amongst the 290,000 affected. In the Guangxi capital of Nanning, two women were killed by a falling tree.

China's aviation authorities said Tuesday that more than 200 flights have been cancelled due to Kalmaegi across the region.
