Nansha work to aid residents

China on Tuesday reiterated that its activities on the Nansha Islands in the South China Sea fell completely within China's sovereignty.

China has repeatedly declared indisputable sovereignty over the Nansha Islands and the surrounding waters, said foreign ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying during a regular briefing on Tuesday, in response to a question regarding a BBC report that China is conducting large-scale land reclamation in the South China Sea.

Hua said that the construction work being carried out on some islands in the area is aimed at improving the working and living conditions of the personnel who are stationed on the islands.
