Traffic police said that the vice-principal of Zhejiang University is primarily responsible for the traffic accident in June that killed him, Xinhua News Agency reported on Sept 3.
The statement reversed the previous conclusion that a truck driver was to blame for Wu Ping's death.
Wu drove a car from south to north on Raocheng Road in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province, on June 12, when he crashed into a truck driven by Wang Guocai, the report said. Wu died at the scene, while Wang was injured and the road was damaged, it said.
Wang, who was blamed for the accident, questioned the original report of the traffic accident. Footage from a surveillance camera that was later released online clearly showed Wu's car suddenly changing lanes just before it crashed with the truck.
The report also excluded the possibility that the truck's inadequate brake system and overloaded cargo caused the accident, but said the two factors aggravated the consequence of the clash.
