Anti-Japan war documentary depicts defense of revolutionary base

China's State Archives Administration on Tuesday released the latest episode of an Anti-Japanese War documentary series, which features the successful defense of the northwest Shanxi base area by Chinese troops.

The episode is the ninth of the series released on the website of the administration, which is currently on a promotional drive to raise awareness of the war.

The latest release revealed that in February 1938, more than 10,000Japanese aggressors launched rounds of attacks on Chinese troops in the anti-Japanese base area in northwest Shanxi, vital to the the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) in neighboring provinces.

On March 6, Mao Zedong ordered the anti-Japanese forces led by marshal He Long to cooperate with the Kuomintang forces led by Fu Zuoyi to resist the Japanese attacks in Shanxi

In sabotage operations, Chinese troops retook seven lost counties, seized over 100 mules and horses and a large amount of weapons from the enemy. Japanese casualties totaled about 1,500.

The defense effectively deferred the Japanese invasion and boosted the confidence of Chinese troops and people to fight the invaders.

The documentary series is part of China's activities to mark Sept. 3, the "Victory Day" when the Japanese government officially surrendered in 1945.
