Shanghai's Changning district will build a 10-meter-tall two-tier pedestrian way at the Zhongshan Park Station on Metro Line 3 and 4 to ease the congestion during rush hours.
Construction work on the first phase of the project will begin by the end of the year, the city's top urban planning body said yesterday.
The pedestrian way will link the Metro station with a shopping mall which is under-construction at the intersection of Changning and Kaixuan roads.
Pedestrians and vehicles jam the intersection near the Zhongshan Park Station, which also connects to Metro Line 2, especially during rush hours, the district government said.
The steel structure bridge will be 8.5 meters wide and involves a total investment of 7.53 million yuan (US$1.23 million).
