Senior Chinese leader Liu Yunshan on Sunday urged his compatriots to be more confident in spreading their culture around the world, as he addressed the concluding Beijing International Book Fair.

Liu, a member of the Standing Committee of the Communist Party of China Central Committee's Political Bureau, stressed the vital role the publishing industry plays in establishing cultural power.

Efforts should be made to deepen reform of the industry and provide a channel for foreign audiences to understand China, he said at the fair, which attracted more than 2,100 publishing houses from 80 countries and regions across its five days.
