Eight injured in Beijing residence explosion

Eight people were injured in an explosion early Friday at a residential building in Beijing, said local authorities.

The explosion occurred at around 5:30 am in an apartment of the ground floor of the building at Zuojiazhuangbeili community in Chaoyang District, said the city's fire-fighting authorities.

All injured people have been sent to hospital, with one person in serious condition but no life risk.

Residents said they heard the huge sound of explosion and felt the shock. Window glass was broken and some cars nearby were damaged.

Investigations and further rescue are under way.
