Kunming and Guangzhou, two provincial capitals in southern China, announced appointment of new Party chiefs on Wednesday after their previous leaders went under investigation for disciplinary and legal violations.

Gao Jinsong, Party chief of Qujing City in southwest Yunnan Province, was appointed Party chief of Kunming. His predecessor, Zhang Tianxin, was demoted and stripped of his party membership for dereliction of duty and corruption.

Guangdong Province announced Ren Xuefeng had been appointed Party chief of Guangzhou, replacing his predecessor who was fired after being suspected of "serious violations of discipline and law."
