Apple replaces problem iPhone 5 batteries for free

Apple started replacing some iPhone 5 batteries for free from Aug. 22.

Users who have iPhone 5 devices affected, experiencing bad battery symptoms and meeting eligibility requirements, can have their iPhone 5 battery replaced.

In a statement posted at the company's website, Apple said that it had found out about a very small percentage of iPhone 5 units have their batteries suddenly having a shorter life or requiring to be charged more often.

Apple said the iPhone 5 devices that have a shorter battery life issues were sold between September 2012 and January 2013.

The battery replacement is already available in the US and China from Aug. 22, while for other countries the battery will be replaced starting from Aug. 29.
