The State Administration of Cultural Heritage has issued guidelines on the requirements that must be met in order to establish folk museums, reported the Beijing Daily.

These guidelines stipulate that residential communities, dining areas, basements and other such settings which have the safety risks should not be used to house folk museums.

According to these guidelines, civil servants of the government are not allowed to establish museums in their own name. A registration fund of 500,000 yuan (81,282) is required, along with a minimum of 300 items on display. The curator of the museum needs to have undergraduate or higher degree, with at least five years work experience in a museum.
