Patrik Esztergalyos is undoubtedly one of the best known names at the on-going Nanjing Youth Olympic Games (YOG).

The 17-year-old fencer from Hungary fought Mohammad Shaheen of Syria in the pool round and won the gold medal in the men's epee on Tuesday.

After that, he became one of the most famous people in the athletes' village in Nanjing, and became an online hit throughout the country.

However, his popularity is not due to his skill or victory, but his handsome face and bright smile.

On Aug. 20, one day after his victory, his fans on Instagram increased by 47,000, most of them girls from China.

Esztergalyos' fans boast that he is the most handsome champion at the 2014 Nanjing YOG. But so far, he seems to have no idea about his popularity in China.

"I've no idea how popular I am in China currently," said Esztergalyos during an interview, "but my friends have told me something [about it]. So far, I have had a wonderful time in Nanjing. I hope all the Chinese fans can be as happy as me."

Patrik Esztergalyos was born on August 19, 1997 in Hungary. At the 2014 Nanjing YOG, he has won a gold medal in the men's epee singles and a silver medal in a men's fencing team event.
