The Chengdu auto show will kick off on Friday and will last until September 7, according to information posted on the auto show's website.

Some 35 new models will make their debut at the auto show, 18 of which will be SUV models, media reported earlier this week, to appeal to Chinese consumers who generally prefer larger cars.

Shanghai Volkswagen, one of the German automaker's joint ventures in China, will launch the production version of its NMC coupe model at the auto show, and the model is expected to officially hit the market in November, industry portal autohome.com.cn reported on August 15.

As the joint venture is about to celebrate its 30th anniversary next year, it will also roll out limited editions of four of its current models, media reports said.

Premium brand Infiniti will launch its long-wheelbase Q50L at the auto show, which is also the first model locally produced in China. Besides, Infiniti will also launch a compact SUV model called ESQ at the auto show.

Dongfeng Honda, which is experiencing declining sales at present, will debut its upgraded Spirior sedan model as well as a concept car at the auto show.

Other major automakers such as Mercedes-Benz and BMW as well as domestic carmakers like Geely will also bring new cars to the auto show, media reports said.
