The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) on Thursday asked South Korea to extend operation hours of the liaison office at the truce village of Panmunjom, apparently seeking to respond to Seoul's dialogue offer, Yonhap News Agency reported.

The Unification Ministry was quoted as saying that Pyongyang proposed to extend working hours of the inter-Korean communication channel at Panmunjom, which usually closes at 4 p.m.

The DPRK was expected to send its response to South Korea's suggestion made on Monday to hold senior-level inter-Korean talks on Panmunjom on Aug. 19.
