A 3D adventure epic centering on the treasure of Genghis Khan, founder of the Mongol Empire in the 13th century, will start shooting in April 2015 and hit cinemas in 2016.

"Genghis's Treasure" (working title) is a hybrid of adventure, mystery and action will be produced by Hollywood veteran Avi Arad and directed by Lisi Mai, a Chinese director from the Mongolian ethnic group.

Avi Arad revealed his long passion for Genghis Khan at the launch ceremony, promising an epic on a par with "Brave Heart," "Spartacus," and "Gladiator."

"The film will feature profound cultural depths and bring the essence of Chinese civilization to audiences around the world," said Mai, whose works reflect the history and culture of the Mongol ethnic group.

The film is a co-production of China and the United States including investment from the China Film Co., Ltd.
