Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Indian Minister of External Affairs Sushma Swaraj on the sidelines of the series of ASEAN Foreign Ministers' meetings ( AMM) on East Asia cooperation on Saturday.

"China and India, the two biggest developing countries who are neighbors, if join hands in cooperation, will make the world more balanced, secure and stable," Wang Yi said during the meeting.

A successful meeting last month between Chinese President Xi Jinping and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Brazil has affirmed their commitment to a more closely-knit partnership and the goal of achieving peaceful, cooperative and inclusive development, Wang said.

Noting that China-India relationship is embracing a new phase of opportunity, Wang stressed the need for the two sides to make thoughtful preparations for high-level mutual visits, inject new impetus to bilateral relations, push for practical cooperation in railways, industrial parks, trade, investment and other key areas, create new bright spots in people-to-people and cultural exchanges and deepen cooperation in international and regional affairs.

Swaraj said that since the formation of the new government in India, there has been frequent high-level communication between India and China and the successful meeting between Modi and Xi Jinping, in particular, serves as a strong boost to bilateral relations.

The Indian side extended invitation to Chinese president for a visit to India, while standing ready to vigorously enhance cooperation with China in the fields of trade, investment, culture and people-to-people exchanges, so as to bring bilateral relations to a new height.

Both sides maintained that countries in the region should hold dear the hard-won stability of Asia and prevent it from disruption and damage.

The 47th AMM, which kicked off at the Myanmar Convention Center Friday, has brought together their counterparts from ASEAN's dialogue partner countries to discuss political, security and developmental issues that have significant impact on the region.
