A doctor who treated the first victim of Ebola in Nigeria's most populous city of Lagos has been infected with the virus less than two weeks after the patient died in a public hospital in the West African country, Minister of Health Onyebuchi Chukwu said on Monday.

Chukwu said the result of another doctor, who also treated the first victim of the disease and now having symptoms of the virus, is being awaited.

The result of the fresh case of Ebola would be made public later on Monday, he said at a news conference in the Nigerian capital.

The two doctors had attended to Patrick Sawyerr, a Liberian, who died in Nigeria less than two weeks ago due to Ebola infection.

According to the official, all international airlines had been directed not to bring back dead bodies from the countries with Ebola virus.

"Government agencies have also been directed to ensure that borders are properly checked to ensure that dead bodies from such countries are not allowed in," he said, adding the Nigerian government was working assiduously to contain the disease.

Nigerian authorities had announced on Sunday that the government will not close its borders over Ebola virus, unless it becomes necessary.

Disclosing the government's standpoint, Nigeria's minister of interior, Abba Moro noted the closure of borders is an extreme situation that has its own wide-range consequences.

"At present, Nigerian medical workers, Nigeria Immigration Service and all other health officials are striving to contend the situation at the borders," he added.
