Zhong Plaza, the newly-opened courtyard space near Nanjing Xi Lu metro station might be the hot new summer sipping place in the city, but it's not the only collection of old Shanghai buildings-turned-F&B complex to have opened in the past few weeks. Bars and restaurants are slowly opening at the Hengshan Fang development on the corner of Hengshan Lu and Tianping Lu that we wrote about last month.

Among them is Tiki China, from Vance Yang, head barman at Jingan cocktail lounge Yuan Bar. Yang claims that the bar is the only one in Shanghai using 100 percent fresh fruit cocktails. Signature creations such as the Pear Paradise, muddling fresh rosemary, pear juice and light rum, are priced from 52-68RMB. The main space downstairs is occupied by a restaurant, but there's a smaller upstairs bar and dancefloor area, too.

Currently opening its entire street-facing wall to try and take in some summer vibes is new beer-focused bar Daga Brewpub, found opposite Daga Cafe on Taian Lu, around the corner from Ferguson Lane. The long row of taps behind the brushed concrete and bare-brick bar serves standards such as Brooklyn Lager and La Chouffe, but also more interesting options such as Baby IPA and American Wheat from Nanjing-based brewer Master Gao. Expect to pay from 45RMB for a half pint, or 30RMB if you can make it to happy hour (before 8.30pm).

Over in Changning district, a new spot called Victoria Bar has opened on Yili Lu, near the New Hongqiao Centre Garden. Offering a menu based on standard cocktails and whisky, the bar also has a stage where revelers can hop up for an impromptu song.

Another performance-based venue that's popped up on our radar is Manbo Club, a short walk from the 1933 complex in Hongkou district. Interestingly, they hold pottery workshops in the day, but at night the drinks come out and bands play in the relaxed, arty space.

Finally, the shiny new terrace at Italian restaurant Capo in the Rockbund area has just opened. They're selling massive 1.5-litre strawberry and kiwi mojitos to share for 198RMB.
