Beijing's government has started renovating exteriors of almost 3,000 buildings in 245 main blocks as the city prepares for the 2014 APEC Summit.

The project is the largest-scale renovation of Beijing building exteriors since the 2008 Olympic Games.

The Beijing Municipal Commission of City Administration and Environment said in a statement that the commission will design a unified color scheme for buildings in the same block.

The 3,000 buildings are among the first to be renovated. The commission will renovate remaining buildings throughout the city this year.
