Man detained after setting fire to home

A man who set fire to his apartment following an argument with his family was held by police in Yangpu District on TUesday morning.

The 26-year-old, surnamed Ren, locked himself and his brother in a room about 5am, poured inflammable liquid and ignited it, said officers. According to neighbors, Ren had been arguing with his mother. Firefighters arrived quickly and extinguished the blaze. No one was injured but Ren's apartment was destroyed. On July 1, police broke into the flat after Ren locked himself and his heavily pregnant wife inside and threatened to commit suicide.
