A man sentenced to eight months in jail for stealing clothes from people's homes in Guangzhou, Guangdong province told police he was so consumed by his Internet gaming obsession that he had no time to do his laundry, local media reported.

The Huadu district court also fined the 22-year-old surnamed Liu 1,000 yuan ($160) for four counts of theft and breaking and entering.

Police said Liu confessed to the crimes, citing that his intense gaming habit had prevented him from washing his own clothes.

One of Liu's victims surnamed Li found his house ransacked on the morning of December 26 last year. He claimed his yellow jacket and jeans were missing.

Li claimed that two white T-shirts also disappeared in another similar incident.

Neighbors of Li also reported clothing had been stolen from their homes.
