The Xicheng district government have started providing emergency first-aid training courses and English language courses to the district's street guides, the Beijing Daily reported.
Most of the city's street guides are aged between 41 and 60 years old. A survey in the Xicheng district revealed a large percentage of the street guides had little first-aid knowledge or foreign language abilities. The government therefore have decided to improve their skills.
Last week, a female passenger collapsed at the Jishuitan Station in Xicheng district, and two street guides used their emergency first-aid skills to save the woman.
