A farmer in Laiyuan county, Hebei province, stopped a train on a railway blocked by a mudslide, cnr.cn reported on Monday.

Lu Wei, 42, was herding sheep on July 15 when heavy rain caused a mudslide that blocked a railway below. Lu heard a train approaching and stood on the railway waving his hands in an attempt to stop the train. The train stopped 10 meters from the blockage.

The Beijing Railway Bureau, which manages the railway, gave Lu a reward of 10,000 yuan ($1,618) for his bravery.
