It's been 17 hours since the aircraft went down Wednesday night. Family members of victims have flown to site on the island county of Penghu. 48 people on board were killed.

Authorities say 10 survivors have been hospitalized, and they are searching for one person who might have been in a wrecked house on the ground. Some 200 military personnel are assisting with recovering the victims.

Flight GE 222, was flying from Kaohsiung to Makung, with 58 people on board. It smashed into residential buildings after a failed emergency landing in Penghu. Taiwan's transport authority said the majority of the passengers are from Taiwan, two from France, and none from the Chinese mainland. One of the black boxes has been found and authorities are investigating the cause of the crash.

Taiwan was hit by Typhoon Matmo, and many say the stormy weather may have contributed to the crash.
