A plane making a second landing attempt in stormy weather crashed at an airport in Taiwan's Penghu county late Wednesday, killing 47 people and injuring 11 others, Taiwan-based news network tvbs.com.tw reported citing Taiwan transport officials.

A TransAsia Airways flight GE222 plane took off from Kaohsiung Siaogang Airport around 5 pm. It was scheduled to land in Penghu's Magong Airport at 5.30 pm.

There were a total of 58 people on board - 54 passengers and four crew members. Four children were among the passengers.

Transportation authorities in Taiwan said the plane caught fire after it landed "at the end of a runway".
