The family of a 24-year-old man who died after his pistol accidentally discharged at a Changping district shooting range is still negotiating compensation with the business's management more than two months after the death, the Beijing Youth Daily reported.

Liu Wei (pseudonym) was allegedly shot on May 17 at the Beijing Aolin Shooting Range by his gun after its safety cord became caught on the trigger when he placed it down. Despite being rushed to hospital, he died later that day.

Liu's friend who accompanied him at the shooting range said Liu fired at a target and then put the gun down, which then "flipped and fired."

The shooting range has been closed since the incident, but the business has continued to operate its laser tag arena for customers.
