Six vehicles, including two public buses, were involved in a pileup collision in the Dapu Road Tunnel on Monday morning, leaving over a dozen passengers injured.

The accident happened at 9:55am in the tunnel, 500 meters from the Puxi exit. According to a witness, a No. 781 bus driving from Pudong to Puxi lost control, crashing into two cars and a No. 572 bus ahead of it. The No. 572 bus then collided into another car due to the impact.

Some passengers from both buses were injured. The door frame of the No. 781 bus was twisted, and passengers were trapped inside the carriage until they were helped out by firefighters.

The injured passengers were sent to Shanghai Ruijin Hospital and Shanghai No. 9 People's Hospital. Ruijin treated 11 injured passengers starting about 10:30am, hospital officials said. Five people suffered bone fractures, and a 4-months pregnant woman was under medical care in stable condition.

Traffic in and leading up to it was backed up through part of the morning. The Pudong entrance at Yaohua Road and Changqing Road was closed temporarily.
