A total of 151 people in Northwest China's Gansu province were quarantined on Thursday following the death of a man from the day before.

The government of Jiuquan in Gansu reported the death on Thursday and said the all 151 people who had close contact with the patient were quarantined and given preventative medicine. No disease symptoms have been detected in any of the people, the government said.

The local government has also shut down a nearby highway exit to prevent the plague from spreading.

According to the Xinhua News Agency, the patient had come in contact with marmots before falling ill. Medical experts have warned the public not to touch or eat marmots.
