Rainstorms will sweep China's southwest on Tuesday, with precipitation expected to reach 130 mm in some areas, the National Meteorological Center (NMC) forecast.

The downpours will affect Yunnan, Guizhou and Sichuan provinces as well as the city of Chongqing, according to the forecast.

Thunderstorms and strong gales are also expected in these regions, the NMC added.

In contrast, it said, parts of north and northwest China, including Xinjiang and Inner Mongolia autonomous regions, will experience a heat wave for the next three days. Temperature will climb up to 38 degrees Celsius.
