A 19-hour siege at Sihai Primary School in Dongnan village, Sanjiao Town, Zhongshan city in South China's Guangdong province, ended in gunshots and the arrest of a suspect, according to Zhongshan News based on a Guangzhou Daily report.

On Monday Luo, a school official, had words with three debt collectors before seizing one of them as a hostage and demanding 500,000 yuan ($80,050) as the condition for his release. The two remaining debt collectors claimed Luo was armed.

At 12:10 on Tuesday, an ambulance drove into the school and brought out one injured person before taking them to hospital. Within 15 minutes four gunshots were heard and at 12:25, police entered the building and the suspect was subdued.

No teachers or students were present as the school summer vacation has already begun.

The investigation is underway.
