South China's Guangdong province has drafted a regulation banning showers in massage rooms as part of a campaign against prostitution.

According to a draft law submitted for public opinion, massage providers will not be allowed to turn off the light while they work.

A detailed list of the many prohibitions also includes bans on shower and sauna facilities in massage rooms, locks and bolts on the door and attempts to block the "transparent" parts of the door.

Moreover, clients in venues between 2am. and 8am must have their information registered with police.

Media exposure of the sex trade in Dongguan, the "sex capital" of China, in February was the start of the current campaign.

Police have captured 3,033 suspects and busted 214 gangs in raids on nightclubs, saunas and other entertainment venues or hotels. A total of 269 venues have been shut down and 3,129 others ordered to suspend operations.
