An amateur women's choral group whose singing helped make time fly for passengers suffering through a lengthy flight delay earned some deserved praise from the airline on Tuesday.

Okay Airways sent text messages thanking the group of some 20 singers from Tianjin for keeping travelers smiling and singing along during what turned out to be a seven-hour flight delay on June 20.

Video uploaded online showed the seated singers belting out crowd favorites aboard an Okay Airways flight delayed for 7 hours in Tianjin on June 20.

"I've worked on planes for 10 years and had never seen such a scene. It was so interesting," said Yang Dongmei, chief attendant on the flight.

The flight bound for Zhangjiajie, Hubei Province was delayed due to heavy air traffic at Tianjin Binhai International Airport.

Group member Cao Xianru, 60, who conducted the singers from the aisle, said they got the idea for the impromptu choral concert in order to lighten the mood as people waited.

Passengers soon joined in singing with the group as Cao played musical accompaniment on a small speaker.
