City bus officials in Ningbo, Zhejiang province are not only making sure drivers are paying attention to the road, but also their feelings.

In order to better ensure driving safety, the local public transportation department has initiated a "mood check-in system" for bus operators.

Every day, Yongping Bus Company drivers swipe a card at a terminal, where a screen prompts them to rate their mood from one of four choices: good, okay, not well but still able to work, terrible and won't work.

If drivers are feeling out of gas, someone is assigned to cover their shift. For those feeling down that want to stick it out, drivers are provided access to one-to-one counseling

During their morning check-in on June 30, three of the 300 Yongping employees rated themselves as "not well but still able to work."

The drivers, who said family issues and minor arguments were to blame for their bad moods, were back to work after a short counseling session.

The company claims to have been monitoring the moods of employees since July 2012.

"Sometimes we get upset when passengers complain or yell. Now the company cares more about our feelings and arranges counseling, which helps get rid of our bad mood," said a bus driver surnamed Li.
