Man calls police with fake drunk driving claim to catch World Cup game

A soccer fan in Nanjing, Jiangsu province tried to get himself arrested by telling police he was driving drunk after his wife forbade him from watching the World Cup.

The man, surnamed Zhang, called police and told dispatchers he had arrived home and would continue driving drunk unless he was taken off the road. Police arrived to find Zhang sober and quarreling with his wife.

The owner of a barbecue stand, Zhang wanted to close shop at midnight in order to catch the games. His wife argued that midnight is peak business hours and refused.

A false police report is punishable with a fine and detention of up to 10 days in China.
