Soccer fans pulled over for drunk driving in Chengdu, Sichuan province during the World Cup are expressing more interest in their favorite teams than their legal troubles, the Chengdu-based West China City Daily reported Wednesday.

A driver surnamed Fang was detained on his way to watch the match between the Netherlands and Chile on midnight Tuesday after a blood alcohol test showed Fang was more than twice the legal limit.

However, after being taken to the local traffic police station, Fang's first request was not for a phone call.

"That's good. I love Robben and Van Persie," said Fang after hearing his team, The Netherlands, won 2-0. Fang faces up to six months of criminal detention.

Another Holland supporter surnamed Yao showed the same spirit after police stopped him during a DUI check during the same game on Tuesday.

The soccer fan even showed cops a list of his picks as evidence of his devotion to this year's World Cup.

Chengdu police have pulled over a total 46 drivers since the tournament began, three of which were found to be drunk driving soccer fans.

A total 11,000 drunk drivers have been stopped by police nationwide since the FIFA World Cup began on June 13, according to the Ministry of Public Security. More than 400 people have been detained on "suspicion of criminal liability," it said.
