Police in Chengdu, Sichuan province detained a shipping company manager on June 10 for stealing more than 1 million yuan in candy to fuel his online soccer gambling addiction.

Wang Hui, 28, is accused of raising over 1.3 million yuan ($208,130) by forging invoices for confectionaries held in the company warehouse and selling them off at a discount.

The Chengdu branch manager is still more than 1 million yuan in debt after having gambled away all of his ill-gotten earnings - all before placing a single bet on the ongoing FIFA World Cup in Brazil.

"When I became addicted to soccer gambling, all I cared about were scores," said Wang.

Wang said he would have placed bets on the World Cup if he hadn't been caught. But ever since his detainment, Wang said he doesn't want to watch another soccer match, ever.
