The Special Education Colleage of Beijing Union University says it is building the first Chinese Braille database. The project will be a great leap forward for Chinese Braille development, the Beijing Youth Daily reported.

Together with the new database, a Chinese character-pinyin-Braille translation program is also under development.

The software is the first in China, which can transfer Chinese to pinyin and then to Braille and vice versa.

Additionally, the database project also aims at lowering the difficulty of Braille translation and proofreading.

In the future, in national level examinations, this database can serve to offer translations of Braille test papers for the blind.
