Information officials of China and South Korea on Monday called for further enhancing exchange and cooperation in the two countries' media sector.

Chinese Minister for Information Office of the State Council Cai Mingzhao and South Korea's Vice Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Kim Chong on Monday made the remarks separately when delivering speeches at the 6th China-South Korea Media High-level Dialogue held in Seoul.

Cai said Chinese President Xi Jinping met with South Korean President Park Geun-hye last June, reaching a series of consensus on enriching the strategic cooperative partnership between the two nations. The two countries have implemented these consensuses actively and bear rich fruits on friendly cooperation.

He said Chinese and South Korean media's joint efforts have contributed to current China-South Korean relations. Strengthening media ties of both sides is in accordance with people's expectations and interests, he said, adding he hopes both Chinese and South Korean media could enlarge news coverage of each other and continue enhancing the quality and level of media cooperation.

Kim said the dialogue mechanism has made great contribution to the mutual understanding and trust in the fields of politics, diplomacy, media and culture between the two countries.

He added that China and South Korea, blessed with geographical proximity, cultural affinity and frequent economic exchanges, should deepen media cooperation and cultural exchanges, and share their future through common development.

China's Xinhua News Agency, People's Daily, South Korea's Chosun Daily, Joongang Daily and other 30 main media organizations from China and South Korea have sent more than 40 representatives to the dialogue. The two sides exchanged broad views on media's role in promoting bilateral ties and achieving peace and development of the East Asia.

Launched in 2009, the China-South Korea Media High-level Dialogue is held once a year in China and South Korea in rotation. It is aimed at promoting in-depth discussions on issues of common concern, strengthening mutual trust and cooperation and creating a harmonious opinion atmosphere for deepening the strategic cooperative partnership between the two nations.

This year's dialogue was hosted by South Korea's Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and co-organized by the 21st Century South Korea-China Exchanges Association.
