About 13,000 people have been evacuated after typhoon Hagibis landed in sea areas of Shantou City in south China's Guangdong province on Sunday afternoon, local authorities said Monday.

The tropical storm, China's first in 2014, made landfall on the coast of Haojiang District at 4:50pm Sunday, bringing downpours of up to 302 mm in precipitation.

Torrential rain hit 14 villages in two townships, resulting in the relocation of more than 13,000 residents.

No casualties have been reported thus far.

Shantou has dispatched patrols and a rescue team to deal with potential disasters.
