Firefighters save kids from tank

Firefighters in Xichang, Sichuan province saved two boys who accidentaly fell neck-deep into a tank of liquid asphalt on May 30.

The two boys, aged 6 and 8, were sent to a local hospital without injury after the four-hour rescue operation, where firefighters injected diesel oil into the tank in order to dilute the viscous substance.

The pair reportedly fell into the tank of asphalt more than a meter deep near Siyuan Road after climbing on top and falling through an opening.

Rescuers were alerted after local residents heard screams.

Firefighters soon arrived at the scene and first used a fan to blow much needed air into the tank. They then surrounded the children with wooden planks in order to keep them from sinking further into the asphalt.
