More than a 100 paintings created by an equal number of farmers from across China, have been unveiled at the United Nation's headquarters in New York.

It's the first exhibition of its kind, and is hoping to present a bit of diplomatic charm.

Showcasing the beauty of China's countryside. Under-Secretary-General for Communications and Public Information Peter Launsky-Tieffenthal attended the opening ceremony.

He praised the paintings, saying they reflected nature and the daily life farmers lived, as well as hopes for peace and harmony, the very same values the United Nations holds.

"This painting's name is Coming Home. It's an abstract painting. It transfers the happiness when you come home," said Wang Linxu, chairman of CPCPRA.

At the opening ceremony, Chinese painter Li Junmin gave his painting "Sino-Africa Dialogue" to the UN headquarters. He said his inspiration for the painting came from an African wood carving show held in China.

The show runs until May 23rd at the UN headquarters in New York, and will be held in China in July.
