A 19-year-old student has been indicted for obstructing public business after he assaulted his mother and police officers in Changping district, the Beijing Youth Daily reported.

The student, surnamed Ma, attends high school in Canada. In March, he returned home to ask for 300,000 yuan from his mother, surnamed Zhou.

Despite failing to get the money, Ma continued to harass his mother. Zhou called the police when his behavior became violent.

When the police arrived, Ma refused to open the door and began to assault his mother. When Ma eventually did let police into the home, he threw a chair at an officer, whose arm was injured.

Ma has been freed on bail, but could face difficulties renewing his visa to return to Canada.
